1. What is Network? 

• Network is two or more peoples or systems want to communicate with each other.
• Another  way  we can say, network is any interconnection of two or more stations that wish to communicate with each other.

   2. Computer Network

• Computer network is connection of computers the are interconnected with each other using a single technology.
• In computer network not only computers are connected with each other . The resources like a printer,scanner etc.and connecting device like hub, switch also connected with each other.
• These interconnected device are able to the communicate with each other means share a files,folders or exchange the information.

  3.Components required for Networking:

• For networking two types of component are required:

                        Software components

                        Hardware components 

• Software Components:

1.        Protocol   
2.       Operating System (OS)       

• Hardware components:

1. two or more computers
2. Cables(fiber optic , twisted pair, coaxial cable)
3. Network Interface Card (NIC), ISDN adapters
4. Central control devices (switch,hub,bridges,routers etc.)                                        

4. Application of Computer Networks:

• Resources sharing:

         We can share the physical resources such as printers,scanners,CD burn etc.

Ex:

       In companies group of office workers share a common printer.

       In schools,collages also share a common printer.

None of we need to purchase a private printer and it is very costly.

•  Sharing a software and databases:

      We can also share a software and database using computer network. Like that we can exchange the information among the users using a network.

Ex:   

    Most companies have a customer records,accounts, much more information can share using the networks. 

• communication medium:

The computer network provides a powerful communication for the users. 

Every one uses a E-Mail its also one part of Computer Networking.

In communication the part of videoconferencing and teleconferencing part are most important. 

Ex:

 E-Mail: In organization everyone uses a E-mail technology and which provides a great way of communication.

Videoconferencing: It is also one powerful tool which reduces cost and time of travelling.  User can share a information,seeing and hearing  each other even share virtual  blackboard.

Teleconferencing: It means meetings through telecommunication mediums.

• E-commerce  (electronic commerce ):

Due to this make a easy doing business with consumers over the internet.

This sector is expected to grow quickly in the future.
